Mijke Ellen van der Zee is a genderqueer fine artist born 1975 in Zwolle, the Netherlands. They live and works in Rotterdam area since 2000.
Mijke's art is about gender diversity without the intention of moralizing the viewer. They bring the expansion of thoughts in motion and gives the viewer all freedom in perception or changes of thoughts about gender diversity.
Mijke mostly makes paintings, but during their period at the School of Fine Arts they tried a lot of different media for their art, like photos, sculptures, poems or doing performances. After winning the Pippilotti Rist video contest in 2009, Mijke got enthusiastic about short movies. Their videos has been screened at a few transgender filmfestivals.
Mijke works as an independent visual artist and as Media Design teacher at the University of Applied Science in Tilburg. Furthermore Mijke was the curator for the art program of the biennial TranScreen Film Festival in Amsterdam.
